Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria is now pushing for the exit of central Kenya leaders from the ruling Jubilee Party.

This comes barely a month after former Jubilee Vice Chair vowed to do the same to stop Deputy President William Ruto from realizing his presidential bid in the 2022 general elections.

Kuria on Friday hinted that the Central Kenya faction of the party is warming up for a massive walkout of the party and into the rather ancient  Democratic Party ahead of the 2022 polls.

He said that the party belongs to the Mt Kenya region, and the move will be led by former Starehe Member of Parliament Maina Kamanda who lost in the previous 2017 elections.

“To all my detractors out there, let us meet at the grassroots. DP is the party of the region. We leave the others to (Nominated MP Maina) Kamanda," he was quoted by the Nation.

Emerging details indicate that Kuria is very serious about the move that he has since embarked on a campaign to publicize both the move and the lamp-symbolized party.

The move has been welcomed by the party leadership led by Deputy Secretary-General Wambugu Nyanmu who said that he is free to decamp to the party and publicize it.

“Kuria had publicly indicated he wants to join our party without informing us. He even formed a WhatsApp group named Democratic Party on Friday morning.

"But he later called the chairman on phone and was welcomed and allowed to publicise the party," said Nyamu.

Speaking when he resigned earlier in the month, Murathe who is opposed to Ruto's 2022 presidential bid also threatened to challenge his vying eligibility in court.

He seems to be doing the same through Kuria and Kamanda, both of whom appear to be against the DP's attempts to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Should it happen, this will cripple Ruto whose strength in the elections depends on the solidity and unity of the party made up predominantly of his Rift Valley region and Uhuru's Central.
