Kaptuli town residents from Tembelio ward in Uasin Gishu County have something to smile after Soroptomist International Organization donated seventy 10,000 litre tanks.
This is after Hivisasa highlighted a story of Kaptuli residents calling on the county government of Uasin Gishu to sink boreholes and provide piped water since residents were forced to walk for 5-7 kilometres looking for water.
Residents had decried lack of water in the whole of Tembelio ward, Moiben Constituency Uasin Gishu County.
Monicah Birich one of the beneficiaries said the tank will help her harvest water during the rainy season and she will no longer walk for long distances looking for water.
“I want to thank Soroptomist International Organization for coming to our rescue since we were really suffering carrying water in our backs but we will now have arrest,” said Birichi.
Joyce Rono member of Kalyet women group another beneficiary said she will now be able to get clean drinking water and also extra water she will use for bathing.
Sophie Koech from Soroptomist International Organization speaking after giving out the tanks on Sunday said their aim to ensure that women don’t walk for long distances looking for water.
“After reading a story from Hivisasa we decided to come and help residents since we saw the need. A woman walking for 4-7 kilometres looking for water is not a joke yet she is expected to do other chores,” said Koech.
Koech further said they will continue helping the locals. She, however, called on the beneficiaries to put the tanks into good use and cases of water shortage will be a thing of the past.
