Vihiga Governor Wilbur Ottichilo on Thursday released a report indicating findings by a committee that has been investigating the staffing at the County Health Department.
The report indicates that 307 employees were illegally hired by the County Public Service Board (CPSB).
He fired all of them.
According to the governor, the county has had a standoff over the hiring of staff by the CPSB.
He noted that theY had 149 vacant positions but the county board exceeded its hiring by 469.
The report found out that in May this year, 108 staff were employed but had not been shortlisted for employment. 53 who got employment never applied for the vacant positions while 146 were employment directly.
The governor faulted the CPSB whose term ended in June this year for their illegal hiring.
Ottichilo, who last month stopped the salaries of newly employed staff, noted that the 307 fired health staff workers will be paid for the months they had worked.
"Shortlisting is a critical stage in the recruitment process in public service. The salaries of the affected staff are being processed," said the governor as quoted by Daily Nation.
The report, according to the county boss, will be presented to both the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for actions against those involved in the illegal hiring.
