One of the longest serving teacher at Kenya's prestigious institution Alliance High School collapsed and died at his house on Monday, the school confirmed.
Mr James Nguru, a Kiswahili teacher who joined the Kikuyu-based institution in 1991, was confirmed dead by doctors in Kikuyu Hospital on arrival.
The institution's principal William Mwangi said Nguru died at his house adding that family members were alerted immediately when the incident took place.
"I sorry to report the sudden death of Mr James Maina Nguru this morning in his house at around 9:30.He collapsed at his house," Mwangi said.
Confirmed dead on arrival at Kikuyu Hospital. Relatives have been informed accordingly. Burial arrangements will be communicated later," added the principal.
Nguru, an iconic teacher by his own rights, won numerous academic awards while serving as teacher. He was at some point House Master for Smith House.
During his reign, Nguru coached the Hockey team which won numerous trophies at the national sporting competitions. He was a disciplinarian par excellence.
He served longest during the reign of Christopher Khaemba, the famous principal, Samuel Mwangi and most recently, David Kariuki who took early retirement due to cases of bullying at the school.
Mr Julius Ndege, his staff mate, termed the death as 'tragic' saying that his place and contributions to the Alliance High School will remain forever cherished.
Doctors are yet to issue postmortem results which was due to be conducted on Monday. He served the institution for 28 years.
Founded in 1926 for native African students, Alliance High School went on to produce Kenya's most accomplished students for decades, even until now.
Prof Anyang'Nyong'o, James Orengo, Charles Njonjo, Amos Wako, Raila's lawyer Paul Mwangi, Ekwe Ethuro are among the institution's former students.
