100 kilograms of cocaine said to be worth over Sh598 million shillings is set to be destroyed at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters through incineration.

The move was announced by the DCI on its Twitter handle on Wednesday in a series of tweets.

Senior government officials will grace the incineration of the drugs.

The officials include Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiangí, Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji, Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai and the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti.

High Court judge Kimaru will also be present during the destruction of the drugs.

According to the DCI tweet, the cocaine was seized by detectives on 29, July, 2016 in a container at the Port City of Mombasa.

"ABOUT 100KGS of #Cocaine worth over Sh598 Million to be destroyed today at DCI HQS Forensic Lab Incinerator, in a court procedure overseen by Milimani High Court Judge Hon. Kimaru & attended by among other Snr Govt Officials Dr. Fred Matiang'i (CS Interior), Mr. Noordin, Haji (DPP), Mr. Hillary Mutyambai (IG) & Mr. George Kinoti (DCI). 

"The said cocaine was confiscated on 29th July, 2016 from a Container at Mombasa Port while being smuggled into the country, with @DCI_Kenya ANU Detectives leading the Investigations, " the DCI tweet read.

During his reelection campaigns President Uhuru Kenyatta pledged to come down heavily on the trafficking of drugs, saying that no one will be spared the long arm of the law.
