The County Government of Taita Taveta has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the County Government of Mombasa that will see the two counties benefit from jobs, business, and investment opportunities.
Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja said Mombasa County provides a good market for agricultural produce adding that the agreement will enable residents in Taita Taveta to secure good business environment, jobs and investment opportunities available in the port city
“Mombasa County provides a good market for our Agricultural produce. This agreement will enable our people to get business, job and investment opportunities available in the port city,” said the governor.
Samboja said the cordial relationship between the two counties will open up job, business and investment opportunities to county residents.
The governor urged leaders from the larger Coast region to unite and work together in order to realize the development potential and fully exploit their vast natural resources.
Samboja asked them to put their political differences aside and unite the people for a common good.
“We need to put our political differences aside and unite our people for a common good. We have decided to emulate the handshake by our National leaders and we will strive as Coastal governors and leaders to speak in one voice in order to promote unity and cooperation so as to raise the living standards of our people," Samboja added on December 1.
On his part, Mombasa county boss Ali Hassan Joho, echoed Samboja's sentiments, saying Coastal governors and leaders need to speak in one voice in order to promote unity and cooperation.
Speaking at Mwakishimba primary school during a funds drive in aid of the school, Joho supported calls for a referendum, saying it will bring a positive to Kenyans.
He also challenged the leaders from the region to ensure their children are equipped with maritime skills so as to reap from the Blue Economy.
“As we plan to explore our blue economy, we need to position ourselves properly by educating our people on matters Blue Economy,” he said.
