According to the musician’s band management, Vivian Awuor famously known as Vivian Nyathi Abandu died on Tuesday,, April 23 after being swept away by raging flood waters resulting from a heavy downpour in Kibera Estate, Nairobi.

Information released to the public by the band’s management via social media indicates that Vivian staged performances with other band members over the weekend and as usual, she had left her two kids with her sister in Kibera.

The tragedy happened as she was on her way from her sister’s place. The statement says that she was carrying her second born while holding the hand of her first born.

Unfortunately, the firstborn slid and fell into the flood water. She gave out the second born child to someone who was close and dived into the waters in a bid to rescue her child. She did not make it. She died together with the child.

“To the family, we are very sorry for the loss. She was a dedicated member of our band,” reads part of the message posted on Abeny Jachiga facebook page in dholuo.

Abeny Jachiga is widely known in Kisumu and other Luo Nyanza Counties for his hit songs such as Kasinde, Baby Na, Penzi ni Kama Yai, Nancy Nyar Ugenya and Simba Manyo Wendo among others.
