Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago now says Kalenjin leaders will meet next week to plan their way forward politically ahead of 2022 elections.
He said this will ensure that leaders from the Kalenjin community speak in one voice.
“As leaders from the Kalenjin nation, we will be having a meeting next week which will be attended by all political leaders from the community,” said the Uasin Gishu County boss.
Governor Mandago who spoke during a fundraiser for churches in Nyalilbei, Uasin Gishu County on Sunday maintained that any leader who won’t attend the meeting is not with them politically.
Mandago said the agenda will also compound the BBI proposals which are yet again, dividing the political class.
“We will also look into the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) where we will give our stand on the same,” he noted.
The meeting comes just a week after Mt Kenya leaders met in Embu to agree on a common stand on the BBI.
The Uasin Gishu Governor, however, dismissed the recently formed outfit led by former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto and Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny terming it as ill-intended.
The group made up of Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos, Silas Tiren (Moiben), ex-Bomet Governor Ruto and Cheragany's Joshua Kutuny wants a referendum.
Mandago dismissed the group saying they are not in a position to speak for the community.
