Garissa County Governor Ali Bunow Korane reacted Wednesday to the Hulugho attack carried out by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.
Speaking to members of the press, the county boss described the terrorist group as a threat to development and a threat to the way of life of the people.
"It is a threat to our social services including hospitals and schools. It is a threat to our development to our rural areas, " he said.
Governor Korane singled out the destruction of communication masts as major problem.
He expressed his condemnation on the Hulugho attack.
In the attack Safaricom mast was targeted and destroyed.
It was consistent with strategy that the Somalia based group has embraced of targeting critical communication infrastructure.
Inspector general of police Mutyambai confirmed the attack to the media when he visited Garissa County on Wednesday.
He said that investigations into the attack were ongoing and the culprits being pursued by law enforcement officers.
Garissa, which is on the border of Kenya and Somalia, faces one of the greatest threats from the militants as they are able to sneak from Somalia carry out attacks and then go back.
The Kenya military is engaged in an ongoing effort in Somalia to destroy the Al-Shabaab terrorist organisation.
