Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has claimed three candidates in the Kibra parliamentary by-election refused to turn up for media interviews, to share their manifestos as they contest in the upcoming mini poll.
According to Mwangi, Jubilee's McDonald Mariga, ODM’s Imran Okoth, and ANC candidate Eliud Owalo refused to turn up for media interviews.
He said the decision by the three candidates not to attend media interviews have made the media lock out the other candidates since the three are considered front runners in the race.
“Aspirants Eliud Owalo and McDonald Mariga agreed they will do zero media interviews. Because those two won't do interviews, the media is refusing to host other deserving Kibra candidates. Result? Voters might elect thugs because media won't give airtime to deserving candidates,” he said.
Mwangi claimed the candidates together with Ukweli party's Editar Atieno had been invited for an interview on JKL show hosted by Jeff Koinange, but since Mariga, Imran, and Owalo turned down, Jeff decided to cancel the show.
“Plus Imran Okoth. All candidates with political godfathers don't want to face the media and answer hard questions. @KoinangeJeff invited Imran, Owalo, Mariga and Editar for his show, when the three cancelled, Jeff canceled the show.Jeff should host @oeditar and any other aspirant,” he tweeted.
