Mother of Akif Malik, the seven-year-old boy who went missing on Sunday says her son could have been in the process of being trafficked.
Malik was reportedly abducted from their home in Kenya-Re Estate in Kisumu on Sunday, before being found 200 kilometres away, in Homa Bay county, on Wednesday.
According to the mother, her son was psychologically tortured, judging by his state, and was as well starved throughout the ordeal.
She on Thursday said the boy is weak and was only served a cup of porridge by the kidnappers, adding that he needs a lot of psychological counselling to recover.
“He was psychologically tortured, not given any food except a cup of porridge each day by the kidnappers,” she said.
The boy was found in the company of a woman in a house in Suba South constituency, after allegedly being forced into a red car at Kenya-Re Estate on Sunday.
Homa Bay Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) commander Daniel Wachira said the police rescued the boy after receiving a tip off from the public.
“We sent a photograph of the child to his parents in Kisumu who confirmed his identity. We rescued him from the kidnappers,” he said.
The suspect was moved to Kondele Police Station in Kisumu, as was confirmed by area Police Commander Benson Maweu.
