Senior counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has lauded Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i following his directive to lift the ban on transporting goods via road.
In a tweet on Friday morning, the city lawyer said that the move keeps businesses going.
''Insecurity/secessionist/Coast si Kenya/Al Shabab sympathizers vs SGR Monopoly. Daktari Fred made a good and wise decision for KENYA...let us have peace in the Coast and SGR can struggle or even die,'' said Ahmednassir.
Matiang'i chaired a meeting alongside Transport CS James Macharia in Mombasa where they met stakeholders who demonstrated on Monday decrying the directive is hurting their businesses.
The association presented their grievances to the CS and his team who argued that the ban on transporting goods via the road has deeply hurt the economy of Mombasa.
The Kenya Revenue Authority and the Kenya Ports Authority had initially ordered that all cargo transport from the coast be moved through the SGR.
However, coast leaders led by Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir faulted this order stating that it will lead to massive loss of jobs at the Coast.
In his argument, the Mvita MP noted that the move will lead to a collapse of container freight stations and closure of warehouses.
On Monday when they held protests, they vowed to push the government to hear them out.
