To ward off the chill, the deputy president popped into a backstreet hotel to sip hot tea and eat mandazi.

In a series of pictures shared on his social media pages, Ruto is seen sipping tea and eating mandazi while flanked by other leaders.

"A cup of tea and mandazi came in handy to beat the famed chilly weather of Nyandarua County, " he wrote on Facebook.

DP Ruto has been captured before in backstreet hotels taking tea with other leaders.

In 2018, he was pictured with Kisii Governor James Ongwae taking tea and chapati in a local eatery otherwise known as "Kibanda".

His visit to Nyandarua comes hot on the heels of another one in Busia in which a car in his convoy hit a boy who later succumbed to his injuries.

He has been traversing the breadth and length of the country in a bid to bolster his 2022 presidential prospects.

Dr Ruto attended a church service in Nyandarua County. Among the leaders who joined him on the trip is Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungw'a among others.
