On Wednesday, Mukhtar said that he has tendered his resignation as the Garissa Teachers Training College Principal.

Speaking to journalists at Milimani Law Courts, Mukhtar said that he resigned to take care of his son who is receiving specialised treatment in India.

“I thank TSC for accepting my resignation and I will be moving to India to take care of my son who is in ICU,” emotional Mukhtar said.

He said that he cannot continue serving as a civil servant and at the same time criticising government agencies which he accused of allegedly slowing down justice for his son.

Mukhtar asked Kenyans to continue praying for his son.

“He (Idriss) has a bullet lodged in his head and as a family, we urge Kenyans of goodwill to pray for him,” he said.

Idriss survived an attempted assassination on August 19 in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa.

He was shot several times on the head by assailants as he left Kileleshwa mosque.

A key suspect, David Mwai, who allegedly confessed to having been sent to kill Idriss and city lawyer Charles Kanjama, died in police cells.

Two suspects, Aden Hussein, and Juliet Njoki, have been charged in connection to the attempted murder.

Garissa Governor Ali Korane is among people quizzed in connection to the attempted murder.

Korane has denied any involvement in the attempted murder.
