This is after the name of Jaramogi was included in the list of land rate defaulters in the county.

The list complied by Kisumu County Secretary Dr Olang’o Onudi, indicated that Jaramogi Oginga Odinga registered as Ajuma Oginga Odinga, the owner of Kisumu Bloc 12/222, owes the county Sh7, 774,099 while his son Dr Oburu Oginga owes the devolved unit Sh295, 743.

But Governor Nyong’o through his press unit has now apologized to the Jaramogi family after the publication of the list in what has been termed as an enormous error.

“The County Government of Kisumu, in an effort to manage the ballooning land rates account on default, which has had serious impacts on revenue management, commissioned an exercise to compile a list of all the land rate defaulters and the actual amount in default in the county.

"Some of the names in the list were published erroneously. One such name is that of this country’s icon in the independence struggle and the first Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. The Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o sends unreserved apology to the family of the First Vice President for embarrassment caused by this publication,” the statement released on Monday reads in part.

According to the statement, a true copy of the processed report will be published in due course.
