A section of leaders from the Mt Kenya region has told off Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria over his 2022 presidential bid.
Speaking during the second anniversary of the late Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua on Saturday, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu dismissed Kuria's bid, adding that voters in the county will rally behind Deputy President William Ruto in the upcoming polls.
"Moses Kuria hails from Kiambu and we respect him because he is our friend. But I want to put the record straight that there is no confusion at all in the direction that we are headed as a community. We are waiting for that time," said Waititu.
Waititu's sentiments were echoed by his Kirinyaga counterpart Anne Waiguru who argued that Mt Kenya voters have already picked their 2022 presidential candidate, adding that it wasn't Kuria.
"A wise person does not need to be told. When political campaigns begin we shall be there, we know how to campaign and if you look at us you will tell which side we are on," Waiguru said.
Speaking during the same event, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah said he will support Ruto come 2022.
"I will be back here during campaigns and at that time you all know whom I will be pitching for and of course it's not the likes of Moses Kuria," he said.
This comes as Kuria intensifies his bid, insisting that he will be facing off with his ally Deputy President William Ruto who has already declared his intention to vie for the top seat.
Kuria has told off those opposing his bid, noting that his mission to occupy State House is serious and unstoppable.
The vocal MP defended his ambition, arguing that he is the only serious leader who can serve Kenyans better.
"I am not contesting at your home, leave me alone. I have consulted further and realised that I am the only serious candidate who will win the election and serve Kenyans better," said Kuria.
