In a statement through his spokesman Denis Onyango on Monday, Raila said that he would instead focus on his new African Union job.

He, however, maintained that he would continue uniting Kenyans, through the Building Bridges Initiative founded alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The former Prime Minister added that he would henceforth dedicate himself to his new job of 'building infrastructure across the continent'.

“To provide the required leadership in this critical area, and in line with his previous pronouncements, Mr Odinga wishes to reiterate that he will not engage in Kenya’s succession politics ahead of 2022,” reads the statement, according to the Citizen Digital.

“Mr Odinga wants to dedicate the next couple of years to building infrastructure across the continent through his new office and uniting Kenyans through the Building Bridges to the New Kenyan Nation (BBI)," it further reads.

Raila was recently tipped to serve the continent in the capacity of High Representative for Infrastructure Development, a challenge he has since accepted.

The declaration comes as a win to a section of the ruling Jubilee party leaders who recently urged the Orange party leader to exit local politics and concentrate on his new slot.

Odinga will, however, render his services from an office allocated to him in Nairobi.
