Former Gichugu lawmaker and ex-presidential candidate Martha Karua has joined the list of politicians calling for Deputy President William Ruto's exit from power.
Soekaing on KTN's Point Blank Wednesday, the former Kirinyaga gubernatorial hopeful termed the DP a big hindrance to the ongoing anti-courruption purge.
She accused the DP of not believing in the war against corruption headed by President Uhuru Kenyatta, and also using his footsoldiers to frustrate the campaign.
She says that the DP should therefore resign, considering that his name had also featured in a number of graft scandals, and give room for the same to be investigated.
“We are doing politics without honour; politics without values. If the DP differs with the President, even though the President does not have powers to fire him, he should voluntarily resign,” she was quoted by the Standard.
She branded the DP and his team 'defenders of corruption' as a result of their numerous moves contradicting Uhuru's commitment to wiping out the menace.
Karua as well called upon Uhuru to sack his Cabinet Secretaries whose names and ministries have been implicated in corruption.
Those named in alleged corruption scandals so far are Mwangi Kiunjuri (Agriculture), Najib Balala (Tourism) and Henry Rotich (Treasury).
"I would tell him that if a minister is mentioned in corruption and they are suspects, they cannot be investigated while still in office. They will interfere with investigations.
We have seen heads of institutions released on bonds and evidence ends up disappearing. Honest people do not wait to be told to step aside," said the firebrand politician.
However, her calls come barely a month after Uhuru said that he will only sack his officials through the due process and not out of mere allegations.
