Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has rubbished reports that Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri is being fronted as a possible Mt Kenya kingpin once President Uhuru Kenyatta retires in 2022.
Through a post on his official Facebook page on Monday, Wambugu said Kiunjuri cannot be a leader of Mt Kenya.
The MP who is allied to the Kieleweke faction of the Jubilee party went ahead to list three reasons why the Agriculture CS will not inherit the vote-rich region from Uhuru.
"Mt Kenya cannot be led by people who are in office to do business, not to represent those who gave them the opportunity to serve," said the MP.
Second reason Wambugu said was due to the fact that Kiunjuri comes from Rift Valley and that Mt Kenya issues are different from those in other regions.
He noted that the CS should consider being fronted as a leader in Rift Valley instead.
Kiunjuri served as the Laikipia East MP from 2007 to 2013. The constituency is in Laikipia county, in Rift Valley.
"Mt Kenya is not Kibra where outsiders can be shipped in to represent us for political expediency. Things on the ground are very different. (Mambo ground ni different sana)," noted Wambugu.
The vocal MP further pointed out that the Mt Kenya issues are coffee, tea, milk, irrigation and horticulture among others, all of which he claimed Kiunjuri, now the Agriculture CS has not done anything to address as "he is busy positioning himself to ‘take over’ from Uhuru."
