In reference to President Uhuru Kenyatta's alleged deal with Deputy President William Ruto in 2013, he said that the deal must be honoured.

The CS who spoke in Mathira, Nyeri County, warned that failure to this, the region might find itself in trouble in the coming days.

"Whenever we make a covenant, let us lead to the covenant. Otherwise, there are consequences of breaking covenants," he said during the funeral service of area MP Rigathi Gachagua's mother Martha Kirigo Gachagua.

In the said deal, which was later openly declared by Uhuru, the two agreed that Uhuru would support Ruto's 2022 and 2027 presidential bids as repayment for Ruto's backing of his 2013 and 2017 bids.

Kiunjuri stated that covenants have over the time proved to be dangerous if dishonoured, with those who fail to honour them ending up the victims.

On the other hand, he stated, those who fulfilled the covenants were rewarded with blessings, in reference to writings in the bible.

"In all covenants that were fulfilled people were blessed and all the covenants that were broken the people suffered," he added.

The remarks come at a time when Uhuru appears reluctant to assure the DP of his (Uhuru) backing in the 2022 general elections.

Instead, he has called upon politicians to shelve the 2022 debate for now and focus on service delivery to the people.
