As plans to send the flamboyant Governor packing gain momentum, Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju has declared that the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led outfit cannot intervene to save Sonko.

" I have heard those sentiments through our director in-charge of Nairobi at the headquarters office. When it comes to impeachment at the County Assembly, we don't sit there. They (MCAs) decide what to do. That is their responsibility and mandate. We have no reason to intervene," Tuju said.

On his part, minority leader in the County Assembly David Mberia confirmed that Sonko's impeachment is now a matter of when rather than if.

" We will impeach him. We are preparing the ground first because we don't want to be embarrassed when we take our case to the Senate," he said.

Rejected by the MCAs and denied by his party, Sonko now finds himself in an awkward political position.

Not even his controversial decision to nominate Anne Kananu as his deputy may save him even as he finds himself in another fight with the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji over the move.
