Youths from Kisumu who were successful applicants of the youth fund were on Thursday presented with a cheque worth 21 million shillings by President Uhuru Kenyatta accompanied by his Deputy William Ruto, and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
This was done during an occasion organized by the Youth Fund Kenya that saw youths gather at Kisumu's Victory SDA church from morning discussing various issues about youth funding and investment.
The money issued is to be shared among youths from Kisumu, Migori, Siaya and Homabay counties.
Youths present expressed their delight with the initiative and appreciated the Youth Fund programme.
One of the youth, Alfred Ouma, the secretary of One Act Brothers Youth Group based in Kisumu East, said that the amount their group received would be used to buy more motorbikes for their members.
He appreciated the amount their 21-member group had received earlier and said it had invested in several projects.
He urged his fellow youth to be proactive in seeking funding from the government as it had helped members of their group gain self-employment and therefore be independent.
Youth Fund Kenya promised to use diverse loan products, to disburse affordable credit to youth carrying out enterprises in the health industry, as the president called upon the youth to invest the money wisely.
