It is no secret that the release of 2018 KCSE examinations is causing a lot of anxiety across the country.
The situation in Garissa is no different, with parents, teachers, and candidates who sat for the exams expressing uncertainty in the outcome given the manner in which the entire exercise was conducted.
According to Ibrahim Hussein, a former KCSE student from Garissa who sat for his exams at Isiolo Boys' High School in 2018, he is eagerly waiting for the official announcement of the results before he can decide on his future.
Although he is optimistic about passing with flying colors, he revealed to be a bit afraid of the outcome.
"I am optimistic I will get good if not the best. Our teachers prepared us well and it is our hope that when Education CS Amina Mohammed announces the results, it will be all celebrations," said Ibrahim.
A similar anxiety is also evident from the teachers' side, with a number of them pregnant with expectations after preparing their students for four years.
"I am anxiously waiting for the results to see what my students will score. Am also concerned about my subject mean," revealed Mr Joseph Nthenge, a teacher of English from one of Garissa's private schools.
However, for another teacher Adi Gubbey, the story is never different. He is expecting his students to post wonderful results, a thing he says will reflect in his profile at the teacher's appraisal tool TPAD.
'Yes, teachers are anxious. Nowadays, how your students perform in final exams will reflect on our TPAD profiles," stated Gubbey. In the expansive North Eastern region, the Ministry of Education engaged security officers from almost all security organs in the country, a fact that saw a section of professionals criticise the move.
A number of schools in Garissa County were under scrutiny by the examinations' council over claims of cheating with a number of students prevented from continuing with exams.
Even as this happens, KNEC chairperson George Magoha confirmed during the release 2018 KCPE results that the KCSE results would be out earlier than last year's. Going by this alone, it now means the results will be released before 20 December.
