Spending the whole day working and whole night looking at your ceiling is extra boring, isn't it?
Most people after weeks of sleepless nights decide to use sleeping pills, either from a doctor's prescription or even from local chemists where they get Over the Counter (OTC) pills.
You will eventually enjoy the catalyzed sleep courtesy of those pills. However, experts say sleeping pills mean no good on your health.
According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) research published the Business Times in April 2019, hypnotic drugs that was being used as remedy for lack of sleep also known as insomnia caused about 46 non-fatal incidents that left patients with serious injuries. The said accidents included falls, overdoses, and near-drownings.
Dr. Ned Sharpless, the FDA Commissioner said sleeping pills also ere found to be the facilitators of dome deaths.
"While these incidents are rare, they are serious, and it's important that patients and health care professionals are aware of the risks," he said.
In another research done in 2012, the pills were linked to a higher risk of early deaths that resulted from cancer.
However, this research only showed associations and not cause and effect, but researchers emphasized on avoiding sleep aid pills.
Other effects of taking these pills are; becoming dependent on them whereby one cannot get sleep without taking them, allergic reactions, stomach issues, headache, dizziness, and memory problems.
