Residents of Nyakumbati village, Riamakanda in Nyaribari Masaba are yet to come to terms after a man suffocated and died while digging a borehole.
The incident happened on Wednesday.
According to George Marando, the deceased Abel Magero was inside the borehole digging when he suffocated.
"We have been digging the borehole together with Magero until today when he entered the borehole which is 35 feet to dig. I waited for him to ask me to lift the soil in vain," said Marando.
Marando argued that he immediately raised alarm to attract residents.
"I called locals who arrived and upon retrieving Magero from the deep borehole we found him dead," said Mr. Marando.
He added that the late was not sick when they reported to work in the morning.
A local chief Sebastian Machogu said the deceased hails from Nyamache Sub County.
"The deceased has been helping people to dig boreholes. It is unfortunate that we lost him in his line of duty," said the chief.
The administrator said the deceased body was moved to Nyamache hospital morgue waiting for burial.
