Despite distancing himself from 2022 succession politics, ODM leader Raila Odinga is reportedly keen to try the fifth stab at presidency.
Siaya Senator James Orengo, in a past meeting, maintained that Raila will be on ballot whether he likes it or not.
"Raila is still strong to help us reach Canaan. The journey is unstoppable. Those who think he will quit are dreaming," he once said.
But through his spokesman Dennis Onyango, Raila said: "I am focused on my new duties at the AU. I am not interested in 2022 politics."
But should he run, Raila will pick running mate from either his political backyards or in areas perceived to be pro-government.
Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru, with who he reconciled with on Wednesday could be a possible pick from Mt Kenya region. Ms Waiguru is widely popular in the Central Kenya region.
Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo could also be a possible pick for Raila. The two held a closed-door meeting in April sending shocking signals in the country.
For Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, even a section of Luo Nyanza leaders have endorsed a possible partnership with him and Raila. The two have been meeting and are said to be crafting a possible partnership.
Newly appointed JMEC chair Kalonzo Musyoka could also deputise Raila for the third time in as many elections. The two leaders have lately developed a close working relationship.
Musalia Mudavadi, a former Vice President as well who deputised Raila in 2007 could yet again pounce back. He backed Raila in 2017 and was his chief agent at the national tallying center.
There is also an ongoing discussion between Kalenjin and Luo elders to unite Raila and Deputy President William Ruto for possible partnership in 2022.
