The Uasin Gishu County Assembly on Monday grilled Health County Executive Committee (CeC) member Evelyn Rotich over a decision to close all revolving fund pharmacies in the county.
While appearing before the County Assembly health committee, Rotich said the decision was made by the cabinet and was not her own.
"It was a cabinet decision chaired by the governor to close all the revolving fund pharmacies since we were in a position to provide the drugs that our partners AMPATH were providing," said the CeC.
“The decision made by the executive can only be reversed by the governor and not me,” she added.
Over 11, 000 patients suffering from diabetes, mental health, and blood pressure from the county are the most affected.
She noted that before they closed the pharmacies, they were sure that they can provide drugs that AMPATH were providing at a cheaper price or even free.
Many patients from Uasin Gishu are now seeking treatment in neighboring counties after donor-funded pharmacies were indefinitely closed.
The members of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly health committee led by their chair Dr Hosea Some questioned the manner in which the CEC closed the revolving fund pharmacies and urged Governor Jackson Mandago to sack her.
