Nyamira County on Monday engaged stakeholders from Security Agencies on Rapid County Action Plan implementation at a Nyamira Hotel.
Addressing the media, Chief of Party Mr Elly Opondo from Champions of Peace Kisumu said the two days workshop is focusing on Conflict Prevention, Response, Mitigation, Peace Building, Safety and Security of the citizens.
"Prevention and Countering Violent Extremism needs individual and collective response from all stakeholders.The motive of the engagement is to increase the capacity of state and Non-state Actors in Monitoring & Implementation of County Action Plan on preventing and Countering Violent Extremism in Western Region," said Opondo.
On his part, the Nyamira County Commissioner Mr Amos Mariba said the workshop has brought together stakeholders and security partners to mitigate the best ways they can implement to counter terrorism which is a threat to this country.
"We have brought together all stakeholders on a round table workshop to find the best ways we can implement so that we can counter terrorism in Nyamira and its environs. The forum is also seeking to empower the Youth in Prevention and Countering Violent Extremism," said Mariba.
Mariba noted that at the end of the two day engagement under the sponsorship of the County Government of Nyamira, National Counter-terrorism Center and Champions of Peace Movement together with stakeholders will come out with proper ways to counter Violent Extremism in the region.
