A man identified as OC in court documents has taken the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to court for allegedly revealing his health condition to another party without his knowledge.
According to reports by The Standard Group, the man further accused NHIF Kisumu Branch Manager of issuing threats against him over lawsuit.
Justice Fred Ochieng' on Wednesday gave orders barring NHIF from handling the matter until the case is heard and determined.
The complainant claimed that details regarding is health status were shared with people who were posing as employees of NHIF.
In August, he said, someone who identified himself as “Mr Rotich” called and enquired about his health. The caller was a stranger to him.
“I was asked for clarification on facts about my health and my treatment at a private facility,” the complainant stated.
A series of calls from various people who kept on identifying themselves as NHIF employees followed up with each one of them inquiring for similar information from the complainant.
Efforts by the complainant to have NHIF to apologize for allegeldy leaking the information were fruitless as the insurer did not do so.
The patient's lawyer Robert Maua told the court that his client had received threats form an NHIF official over the case.
“My client informed me that he has received threats from a branch manager who told him that he will not win this case,” Maua stated.
Justice Fred Ochieng' asked the lawyer to provide additional information through an official application as they waited for the case to be mentioned on December 5.
