Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja has survived an impeachment attempt by the county's Ward Representatives.
The Senate committee that was deliberating the impeachment of the governor by the Taita Taveta County Assembly said the allegations that informed the impeachment were not substantiated.
The development will come as a great relief to the county boss who was locked in an ongoing standoff with the Ward Reps.
Last week, the Ward Reps unanimously voted to impeach Samboja over claims of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
However, Samboja said he was ready to fight and defend himself against the claims.
“The road to impeaching a governor is long and winding, it is the one that Samboja is willing to take to the end.
"They are only interested in getting a share of what they think is rightfully theirs in the budget," Taita Taveta County Communications Director Denis Onsarigo sad as quoted by the Star.
