Police in Kirinyaga county on Saturday arrested a former nominated Member of the Embu County Assembly (MCA) over allegations of kidnapping a 22-year-old man.
Teresia Njeri was nabbed at Makutano trading center in Kirinyaga, after what she claims was a mistake that saw the law enforcers shoot and injure two of her delegates.
The police claim that Njeri together with Juliet Waithera and Bernard Kariithi who sustained gunshot injuries had kidnapped the man and held him for hours, claims Njeri denied.
According to Njeri, they had rescued the man from an angry mob and took him to her house as she tried to contact his father, after which they agreed that he comes to pick his son.
“When we rescued the man, we made sure he was safe, later I rang his father who lives at Igembe in Meru, and asked him to pick up his son at my house,” she told the Citizen Digital.
However, the ex-county lawmaker claimed that the father showed up with police officers who opened fire on the people she sent to deliver the man to his father.
“At around 4 am, his father called and informed me that he had arrived at the village. I then sent out four people among them my daughter to meet him at the nearby road but surprisingly he was accompanied by police officers.
“When the officers knew they had blundered they claimed that they had shot kidnappers who were armed with pangas. They then came to my home and took me away to the station for questioning,” she said.
She was later released on Sh10, 000 police bail pending her trial in court.
