Residents of Manga in Nyamira County were left in shock after a man caned his son for allegedly failing to read the Bible on Sunday.
The boy's mother Edinah Obwocha said her husband returned home and asked their son to read the Bible verse.
"My husband is always violent wherever our son who is class 5 messes up. He attacked him when he failed to read a Bible verse before we could take supper," she noted.
A neighbor, Elvis Onyancha said the boy run for refuge to his home after the attack.
"It was around 7:30 pm when the young boy arrived at my house crying. I asked him who had attacked him and he told me his father beat him with a walking stick when he failed to read a Bible verse," he said.
Area Nyumba Kumi official, James Omete said parents should stop beating their kids because they may end up committing suicide.
"Assault is illegal and punishable by law. Parents should desist from assaulting their children and wives," he said.
He called on parents to guide their children in life to be good people in the society and not beating them up.
