Religious leaders in Uasin Gishu have condemned the government for failing to address the issue of drought leading to loss of lives.
Led by Uasin Gishu Gospel Ministers Chairman Bishop Wilson Kurui and Uasin Gishu chairman of the Muslim Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) said it's very shameful for one to die because of hunger yet there is enough food in the country.
“People dying because of hunger in this time and era where millions of bags are lying in the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) it’s a big shame, are they fewer Kenyans? the government must get serious,” said Bishop Wilson Kurui.
They were speaking to the press in Eldoret town, Tuesday.
The two wondered why President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto had failed to buy food and take it to drought-prone areas only waiting for calamities and deaths to occur before they act.
“President Kenya and your deputy should put in mind that those people who have lost their lives voted for you and they did not vote for you so that they die,” added Uasin Gishu CIPK boss.
They called on Christians and Muslims to contribute foodstuffs so that people could not die because of hunger.
Close to one million Kenyans have been affected by drought includes Isiolo, Garissa, Wajir, Kilifi, Baringo, Marsabit, Tana River, Samburu Mandera, Kitui, Turkana and Makueni counties.
Over 20 people from the above have lost their lives due to hunger and starvation.
