Most of the time we consume too much salt through food.
While we can't eat food without salt, excessive amounts of it could cause a lot of danger to our health. It is, therefore, necessary to check how much you consume.
Here are 5 signs you are consuming too much salt;
1. You need to urinate a lot
Although this is a common symptom of type2 diabetes or urinary tract infections, experts have found out that when too much salt overwhelms your body, you tend to pass a lot of urine.
2. Persistent thirst
Eating too salty foods can leave your body craving for water all the time. This is because the sodium in excess salt affects fluid balance in the body. This causes a feeling of dehydration and hence the urge to drink water all the time.
Excess sodium (which is a component of salt) consumption raises the volume of blood in your blood vessels. This makes the vessels excessively filled with blood causing high blood pressure which manifests through persistent headaches.
4. Change in urine colour
The normal colour of the urine should be yellow or amber. However, with too much consumption of salt, clear urine is passed. This is an indication that the kidneys are overwhelmed or you have kidney disease as a result of too much salt.
5. You notice that some foods are tasteless
Once your body gets used to too much salt, you will notice that you can never consume any meal without having to add salt because they taste bland to you.
This is a sign that you have developed high taste for salt due to excessive intake.
