Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Director of Elections Junet Mohammed has suggested that the party must secure a win in the Kibra parliamentary elections.
Kibra residents on Thursday retreated to the ballot to elect their next MP, following the demise of their former lawmaker Ken Okoth who succumbed to cancer in July this year.
ODM has since fronted Imran Okoth, whom Junet, also the Suna East Member of Parliament, has expressed confidence will be the man to succeed his brother Ken.
"Whatever happens, we are going to win. I'm confident we will be celebrating our win," he said while addressing the media at the Old Kibra Primary School on Thursday.
Similar remarks were made by Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo, who also said that the party is almost assured of victory.
"We are confident of winning!" said Amollo, while Imran called for unity, terming it very necessary for growth in the nation's largest slum.
"(For development, we must be together as Kibra people. (Ndio maendeleo ifanyike, lazima tuwe pamoja kama wanaKibra)," said Imran, who closely served alongside his brother when he was alive.
It is at the same location where ODM leader Raila Odinga and his family voted on Thursday morning, as well as Ken's widow Monica Okoth.
Though the constituency has for long been seen as an ODM bedrock, the party has found itself under stiff competition from the Jubilee Party and ANC. The two have fronted McDonald Mariga and Eliud Owalo in that order.
