Writing on Twitter on Sunday, the vocal lawyer appeared to suggest that it was in order for Mwende Mwinzi to be barred from taking up her ambassadorial job unless she renounces her American citizenship.

"The case of Mwende Mwinzi has nothing to do with Kenyans in the Diaspora, 99.9% of whom were born in Kenya. Mwende was born in the U.S.A. Kenyan-born citizens cannot lose citizenship and can hold state offices. Mwende can live and work in Kenya but she can't hold a state office," Miguna opined.

The ambassador-designate has been caught up in a legal limbo as Members of Parliament insist that she has to have her American citizenship revoked before she can assume her diplomatic job.

Her conundrum whether to renounce her citizenship or not has elicited mixed reactions with a section of Kenyans calling on her to be allowed to take up the job without having to renounce her citizenship.

She has been adamant to accept the demands of the parliamentarians to renounce her citizenship.

Those who insist that she should renounce her American citizenship contend that belonging to two countries means that her loyalty will be divided.
