Deputy President William Ruto's allies planning to attend the Mombasa Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) consultative forum have been cautioned.
The group on Tuesday declared interest in the ongoing regional consultative forums, saying that its members will begin taking part in them, beginning with the Saturday one.
However, Mombasa governor Hassan Joho, who is at the centre of the Mombasa forum preparations, has told the team that it will have to avoid engagement in politics.
Speaking on Wednesday, he noted that while they are welcome, they must be aware that they can only stick to the script and address matters to do with the BBI debate.
“BBI is not about politics but a national conversation meant to unite the country. We are not issuing pre-conditions to anybody but we want those who attend to promote a national conversation that ensures inclusivity,” Joho told the Standard.
A number of leaders allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga have since revealed that the meeting will be regulated by Coast governors.
It has also emerged that the county bosses will decide who addresses the gathering, saying that there is no guarantee that the new entrants will get a chance to address the rally.
This was revealed by Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, Fatuma Gedi (Wajir), Junet Mohammed (Suna East), and Kanini Kega (Kieni), in a press conference in Nairobi on Wednesday.
The meeting will be the first one to include allies of the DP, who have until recently been questioning the meetings, claiming that they are a waste of public resources.
