Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika on Sunday tore into the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over the high profile arrests that it has made.
Speaking on Sunday in Mogotio, the outspoken legislator faulted the investigative body for producing suspects in court only to ask for more time for lack of water-tight evidence.
Senator Kihika seemed to suggest that the DCI was abusing its power.
"You must arrest Kenyans when you have probable cause. You cannot keep intimidating people by arresting people without evidence or without sufficient evidence and then dragging your feet and asking for days on end for you to investigate, " she noted in a YouTube video shared by MagicalKenyanews.
The legislator warned that if the DCI continues with its modus operandi, then they would be forced to institute reforms in the country's criminal justice system.
Her strong words come in the wake of the arrest of Secretary of Innovation, Digital and Diaspora Communication in the Office of the President Dennis Itumbi over links to a controversial letter said to have carried claims of a plot to assassinate the Deputy President Dr William Ruto.
A court granted the DCI's request for Itumbi to remain in police custody for 5 more days in order to piece together evidence to mount a case against him.
Starehe Member of Parliament Charles Njagua Kanyi alias Jaguar was also arrested and detained for several days before he was released on bail over utterances he made that were interpreted to be xenophobic.
