Kisii County Governor James Ongwae, who is perceived to be a close ally to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has been condemned after he donated old theatre equipment to be used in the new Maternal-Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) and theatre he launched on March 27 at Kenyenya Sub-County Hospital.
Boochi Borabu ward MCA Samuel Angasa speaking on Wednesday evening in Kisii town said Ongwae is ashaming himself.
"As much as Ongwae wants to make health affordable to residents, he should stop a shaming himself. How will he take old theatre equipment from Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital to set them up at Kenyenya Sub-County Hospital? This is not the affordable health care we should talk about," he said.
The ward representative appealed to Ongwae to ensure funds are allocated for the new equipment to be bought instead of recycling old ones.
"The old equipment should be returned to KTRH because the facility serves a high number of people. We don't want to see people dying because the theatre equipment has been moved to Kenyenya Hospital," he stated.
During the launch, Ongwae said the facility will play a key role to expand the health sector and benefit residents of larger Bomachoge and neighbouring sub-counties.
