A section of Nyamira residents have picked war with Senator Okong'o Mogeni, a senior counsel and lawyer to opposition leader Raila Odinga following his latest appearance for DCJ Philomena Mwilu.
Moments after Mwilu was arrested, Mogeni, a first time senator was among lawyers who thronged to Milimani law courts to offer defense.
A member of his firm, Mbaka Bwomwando, said he was pleased to have Mwilu released.
"Consulting with senior counsel Mogeni. We are happy having secured release of DCJ."
But back home, his constituents attacked him for going mum on corruption matters relating to county government.
"If Mogeni rushes to court to have the county accounting for billions then we shall be okay. He is just a lame duck legislator," said Ben Mogaka.
Another user, Steward Oyugi added: " he can only defend corrupt suspects that's why he can't even speak about the rotten county."
For three months, Nyamira workers could not be paid by the county government, a problem which was fixed on Tuesday.
During an interview at Minto FM on Tuesday, Mogeni defended his oversight role amid simmering tensions in the county.
"The primary oversight role at the county is carried out by the MCAs. Senators can only act upon statement by Auditor General."
Nonetheless, Governor Nyagarama is scheduled to appear before the Senate PAC on September 3rd over misappropriation of resources.
