Police in Kericho are investigating an incident where a suspected thief is alleged to have committed suicide immediately after stealing a huge amount of cash.
The incident happened in Kimugul village on Sunday, where the burglar is suspected to have broken into a house and stole Sh84, 000 from a safe but ended up hanging himself.
Area chief William Sang said that the suspect realized he was in trouble after a crowd gathered outside the house. He opted to hang himself.
The administrator said one child of the family learnt of the theft.
On realizing that their home had been broken into, the child who had been herding cows raised alarm.
Neighbours flooded the homestead and vowed to teach the burglar a lesson.
The suspect locked himself in the house and used a rope to hang himself from one of the rafters.
His body was found dangling from the rafters, reported Citizen Digital.
His body was moved to the Kericho District Hospital mortuary.
