Deputy President William Ruto's anticipated graduation with doctorate in Biological Sciences from the University of Nairobi this December is a culmination of seven years of hard work.
In 2016, Ruto publicly admitted of failing to impress examiners in his thesis presentation thus the unfulfilled journey of graduating the same year.
“I urge all colleges to observe set standard and award certificates to students purely on merit,” he said yesterday in two Tweets.
“As a PhD student, I have subjected myself to that standard. I was due to graduate tomorrow but I can’t because of requirement."https://businesstoday.co.ke/why-dp-william-ruto-failed-to-get-phd/.
In his thesis titled 'impacts of human activities in riperian reserves', Ruto took Saiwa swamp in Trans Nzoia as his case study, which he maintained until his latest clearance.
The University of Nairobi, School of Biological Sciences has already enlisted him as one of few candidates who will graduate this December, even though the decision has evoked sharp debate on social media.
In 1990, Ruto graduated with Bachelor degree in Zoology and Botany before completing his Masters of Science, Environmental Science from the same institution in 2011.
The PhD has taken him a whopping 7 years to complete and it's not clear whether he will make a speech as a student or a state official during graduation ceremony.
