Renowned social and political commentator Dismus Mokua has joined the chorus of those calling for the resignation of Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha over the deadly Precious Talents Top School.
Speaking on Sunday during a wide-ranging panel discussion on Standard Media Group-owned Kenya Television Network (KTN), Mr Mokua said that were Kenya a civilised nation, then the Education CS would have tendered his resignation to President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is the appointing authority.
According to the analyst, the buck stops with the cabinet secretary.
"If we were in a civilized jurisdiction, Professor Magoha ought to have resigned, " he said.
In a press conference after the tragedy that claimed at least 8 pupils, the tough-talking CS showed no indication that he would tender his resignation as a way of taking responsibility.
The CS has been on a whirlwind tour of the country in the wake of deaths at the Nairobi school in a bid to crack down on schools with substandard structures that pose a danger to learners.
A number of schools have been shut down on the orders of the CS with county education directors directed to order the closure of other schools that do not meet the standards of operation.
