The machines set on fire were valued at between Sh40,000 to Sh50,000 each.

Addressing the media after the exercise on Friday, Matungulu Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Gerald Omoke warned the operators to find legal businesses to invest in.

He noted that the operation in doing away with gambling machines will continue.

Omoke said no one will be spared in the fight against illegal gambling in the area.

Residents had claimed that many gambling machines in the area are owned by police officers.

"We don't care who ones what, there are no sacred cows. The operation will continue and we will ensure these machines end in Matungulu," said the ACC.

He explained that the government banned gambling machines to safeguard youths who were overindulging.

He said that the existence of the games had led to cropping up of minor crimes in the region.

"Betting is addictive, once you play you want to play over and over and if one has no money he will devise ways in which he can get money and head back to the game," said Omoke.

The gambling machines were confiscated on Wednesday night in Tala in operation that was led by area chief Pius Nzioka.

Owners of the machines evaded arrest.
