Family and friends of slain Monica Kimani on Thursday held her requiem mass at the Mount Kenya University (MKU) grounds in Thika Town, Kiambu County.

The mass was also attended by Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

However, the governor’s speech at the mass remained the talk of the day, following a slip of the tongue that amused Kenyans.

“I am a proud daughter of four....,” said Waititu during his speech.

He, however, realised the mistake and quickly restructured the sentence.

The county boss was talking about the feeling of losing a daughter, noting that he is a proud father of four daughters.

Monica was found dead at her house in Luciane apartments on Kitale Lane, off Dennis Pritt road. Her body was discovered by her brother George Kimani on Thursday last week, after she could not be reached on phone.

Police have so far arrested one suspect identified as Joseph Irungu as investigations into the murder intensify. Irungu is Citizen TV's news anchor Jackie Maribe's fiance.

Maribe's car was on Thursday impounded before she was questioned at the Kilimani DCIO.

The short clip of Waititu’s speech has since gone viral on various social media platforms.
