Although most Senators from Mt. Kenya region voted against embattled Governor Ferdinand Waititu, two of them stood in solidarity with him.
Meru Senator Mithika Linturi and his Laikipia counterpart John Kinyua stood out as some of those who voted against the impeachment.
But Mr. Kinyua now says he voted based on the technicalities he noted during the impeachment, adding that he had no reason to defend Waititu.
According to him, the quorum hitch at Kiambu County Assembly guided him decision to oppose the impeachment.
“My reasons had nothing to do with the allegations brought against the governor. They could be true, but it has everything to do with the law,” said Mr Kinyua.
“The two-thirds quorum was not raised in the assembly as affirmed during the cross-examination of the key witness and mover of the Motion.”
Governor Ferdinand Waititu lost the vote in the Senate, effectively meaning that his grip to power was prematurely ended.
He his however, fighting in the court although his deputy James Nyoro is set to be unveiled on Friday as the third Governor of Kiambu County.
