Speaking on Saturday, the county boss called for enough investigations before arrests, failure to which he noted that innocent Kenyans might find themselves in the police net.

He stressed on the need for the police to hold the matter with great care, a day after three politicians were nabbed over alleged involvement in the murders and assaults.

"Let there be thorough investigations on the leaders who were arrested so we know whether or not they were involved in the murders. We don't want innocent people to stay in custody for mistakes they did not make," he was quoted by the Nation.

Area senator Cleopa Malala, Matungu MP Justus Murunga and former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa are being detained in relation to the killings.

The county boss and Council of Governors (CoG) Chair spoke when he attended the funeral service of Petronilla Mung'ayi Rapachi and her daughter Shaline Okhasia who are victims of the Matungu killings.

His remarks were echoed by Butere MP Tindi Mwale who, however, insisted that those found culpable must face the full force of the law irrgardless of the positions they hold.

"We want the government to be exhaustive in investigations, through the use of surveillance helicopters and sniffer dogs to trace the killers. They should face the full force of the law even if they are the big names in the community," he said.

The government has since deployed officers from the General Service Unit (GSU) to flash out the killers.
