Senator Kipchumba Murkomen's home turf, Elgeyo Marakwet, for the past one week has been turning 'bloody' as suspected bandits from the neighbouring Pokot community terrorize locals.

On Thursday, pupils of Liter primary school were forced to go back home following the early morning raid that disrupted learning activities in the school.

Confirming the closure, Marakwet East police boss Vincent Kitili said the matter was getting out of hand.

"This morning we had an attack at Liter by suspected bandits from Pokot. Nobody was killed in the attack but the situation is still tense. We have ordered the closure of Liter primary school until normalcy is restored," said Kitili.

The incident comes barely a day after a General Service Unit (GSU) officer stationed at Tot Camp was gunned down by the same bandits.

Residents are now calling on Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i and the Inspector General of Police to intervene in the situation that is threatening to get out of hand.

Marakwet and Pokot communities have been embroiled in bitter battles over grazing land and watering points along the disputed Kerio River.

Politicians have been accused of fanning the frequent attacks in a bid to record political milestones and stay relevant to their respective communities.
