300 police officers who were facing the sack has been given an opportunity to defend themselves.
National Police Service Commission (NPSC) chairman Eliud Kinuthia has given officers who failed a vetting exercise that was conducted by former chairman Johnston Kavuludi in last year.
The newly appointed chairman, Mr Kinuthia revealed that he will not base of former report but instead decided to give the affected officers a chance after he questioned the way the vetting was done.
Speaking a meeting in Nakuru on Monday, Kinuthia revealed that his focus will be based on police's interest and their welfare. He said that most officers have been delivery quality services to the society but only a few elements have not.
“In every profession, there are bad elements but that doesn’t mean everyone working there is bad. It is only a few characters and the Inspector General is doing some good work to ensure that these things don’t happen again,” he said as quoted by People Daily.
Kinuthia said Kavuludi left office before implementing the report he had made against the police officer in question.
“The former commission left before making public their recommendations (for the 300) public and that job was handed over to us… we have, therefore, decided to set aside these files and records,” he added.
Recently, police have found themselves in the limelight after several reports linked them to robbery and crime, with recent one being officers from Kayole Police Station who were linked to robbery in Nairobi's Eastleigh.
