In a tweet on Wednesday morning, KRA said those are just stories.

''We have heard of this story too. (Hii story hata sisi tumeiskia tu),'' said KRA.

The revenue commission was responding to a local daily publication, which had written a story with the headline, ''KRA considering taxing dowry payments to raise revenue.''

In the story, the publication claimed the KRA board was discussing the issue and would soon announce their decision on the same.

"The board made it clear that the talks and consultations are ongoing and that the sooner they arrived at an agreement the earlier they would make it formal,’’ the publication reported.

According to the publication, KRA was considering taking the move with an aim to increase revenue collection.
